Decent work, child labour in agriculture

Through the CLEAR Cotton Project, co-funded by the European Union and co-implemented with the ILO, FAO has provided technical support in Mali, Burkina Faso and Pakistan to enable farmers to end their economic dependency on child labour, strengthen their livelihoods through income generating activities, educate agricultural stakeholders, and raise awareness at the community level. In fact, child labour is prevalent in agriculture and is extensively present in cotton production. Children are involved in a wide range of tasks and stages, depending on the system of production and varying across countries. With the Project ending in January 2023, FAO is organizing National Dialogues in the three countries to present the project's results and lessons learned and identify ways to strengthen and expand good practices. The National Dialogues will take place on 17 November in Mali, 22 November in Burkina Faso and around mid-December in Pakistan (date tbc).
